Take a Discovery Flight

Ever wonder if you’d like to learn to fly helicopters? Give it a try from Hayward Airport with Golden Gate Helicopters. For $195, you can pilot a Robinson R22 for a half-hour with one of our instructors in the other seat to give you a taste of what helicopter flying is all about.

You’ll receive an introductory training briefing, then you’ll accompany your instructor to the ramp to preflight the helicopter. You’ll depart Hayward Airport in the pilot’s seat, and your instructor will guide you through some basic flight maneuvers—and give you a great mini-tour of the San Francisco East Bay area. You can ask questions and experiment with flight controls—always under the supervision of one of our experienced Certified Flight Instructors.

If you're interested, check out the requirements for becoming a Private Pilot. Becoming a helicopter pilot takes hard work and study, and it’s not for everyone—and only about 3% of all licensed pilots are helicopter pilots. If your dream is to become part of that very small group, we can help you realize it.
