Ask the Pilot

Where can we go?

We cover the entire Bay Area, spanning about a one-hour flight radius. This includes all Bay Area airports, as well as the Central Valley, Marin, Napa, Sonoma, Salinas Valley, and the Monterey Bay area. Extended service is available for the North coast, Sierra Foothills/Gold Country, and the Mariposa/Yosemite region.

Can we land anywhere?

Yes, provided three conditions are met. If you have written permission from the owner of the property, if there are no federal, state, or local ordinances that prohibit landing, and if the pilot deems it safe, we can land wherever you choose. Here is how we evaluate the usability of a potential off-airport destination.

Can you land in a vineyard?

The answer is "sometimes." Napa Valley in general and many vineyards in particular are very noise-conscious, and we respect such informal restrictions. We can, however, land at any of the small airports in the Wine Country and then arrange car service to the vineyard for you.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on two things: which helicopter you take (the bigger ones cost more) and how long you are gone. Call us and we can provide you with an estimate once we determine which helicopter is best suited for your group and how much time your outing will take.

Can I bring luggage or golf clubs?

If there is enough available space and weight in the aircraft, you can bring anything (except, of course, hazardous materials). Over the years, we’ve transported farm-fresh eggs, wedding dresses, cases of wine, and much more. Dogs and cats usually make great passengers, although we do request they ride in a crate for the trip.

What if I’m prone to airsickness or nervous about flying?

Good news. Most people who suffer from airsickness in airplanes are not bothered at all in helicopters. As for nerves, our pilots have been called “flight whisperers” for their ability to reassure first-timers and nervous flyers. If a particular movement bothers you, tell us and we’ll avoid it. Sometimes just knowing that you can “say the word” and we will come straight back is enough to calm passengers before take off.

Will we be able to talk while on board?

Yes, and laugh, sing, snap photos, and make plans for dinner. All passengers wear noise-canceling Bose® headsets equipped with microphones so you can talk with your party and chat with the pilot. You can even talk on your Bluetooth cell phone via your headset. And never discount the appeal of yet another popular option: awe-inspired silence.

Can we fly with the doors off?

Yes. We routinely remove doors for aerial photography flights and are happy to discuss the possibility of doing so for your party. We also have expert partners who can mount a professional camera rig inside or outside the helicopter, or provide other photography solutions for you.

What if I’m short on time for planning?

No problem; GGH Concierge Services can come to the rescue. Just tell us the experience you want to create and we’re on it. We’ll pack a picnic basket and provide the blanket for the beach. We’ll chill champagne and strawberries for your romantic sunset flight. We’ll arrange limos, wine tasting, dinner reservations, bike rentals . . . whatever you need. Just ask.

Are children allowed on board?

Yes, provided they are six years old or weigh at least 60 pounds.

Can I take along my infant in my lap?

We don't allow children to ride in a lap, and because of California state law, we can't accommodate car seats, so we must restrict our services to children large enough to sit alone.

I live in the East Bay. Can you pick me up at Oakland Airport?

We can pick you up and drop you off at any airport in our service area.
